The documentary film It’s Only the Beginning had its origin at the Eight Arab Women Filmmakers festival.

 

 

The series Eight Arab Women Filmmakers presents the perspectives of women from throughout the Arab world and was conceived as a platform to promote dialogue between the women behind the camera and the audience. We also invited these eight directors with the intention of furthering the mutual understanding of social realities which too often are perceived as distant, out of reach, even alien. In addition to presenting the films, the festival will feature the Egyptian director Amal Ramsis leading a video workshop designed for Arab women living in Berlin. All of the short films produced during the course of the workshop will be screened upon its completion.

This series – featuring the cinematic works of Arab women filmmakers – was brought to life by its two curators, Chus López Vidal and Paula Rodríguez Sickert, working in collaboration with Amal Ramsis – head of the Arab and Ibero-American film project Entrecineastas– and the Instituto Cervantes.

 

 

This project KUNST + REVOLTE was organized by Chus López Vidal, Paula Rodríguez Sickert, the Akademie der Künste, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, Instituto Cervantes, Berlin, Entrecineastas and Klaketa árabe with the support of the Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
